it literally took me months to realize that this Louise Hopkins whose work I keep seeing all over the place and loving, is actually my tutor that I had a really nice tutorial with a few weeks ago

like seriously, I'm an idiot.
Anyways heres a few shots of her work - lots of "drawing" or "works with paint" rather than being a "painter." She never starts on blank surfaces and her work largely involves erasure or concealment. It's also ridiculously hard to read from a small photo on a computer screen. I'll try to add descriptions later.

traces of thought and intimacy

When NASA first started sending astronauts into space, they realized that the ballpoint pen would not work at zero gravity. A million dollar investment and two years of tests resulted in a pen that would write in space, upside down, on any surface and at any temperature from below freezing to over 300 degrees centigrade. When confronted with the same problem, the Russians used a pencil.

i've got so much honey the bees envy me

happy birthday

obviously my paper is going along at record pace

thanks apple,
also?

it's somewhat embarrassing that OpenOffice.org has neither "commodify" or "commodification" in its spellcheck/dictionary,

The Chicago Manual of Style: Quick Citation Guide

could everyone please start sending me more interesting/important/relevant text messages so that I can cite them in all my extremely important papers I am publishing;

i don't believe in evil faeries,

Tessa Farmer, another find at the Saatchi gallery. as you might imagine this case attracted and maintained a lot of attention from everyone who passed;
a playful, fun, sometimes violent, curious schema of an insect/faerie war;
the tiny human-like skeletons are made of tree roots and I can't imagine how specific and time consuming they are to make,

further proof of my mastery of the photographic medium of portraiture:
the saatchi gallery surprised me slightly. sure, there was plenty i didn't like, but there were also a few that i did.
these old found photographs with spirograph-esque embroidery were small, quite delicate, and really delightful.
the work is by Maurizio Anseri, italian born, living in london. upon looking him up on the internet here, i like most of what i see a lot less than i liked these two i saw in the flesh;

restating the obvious

allow me to share a phenomenal resource that I'm fairly sure anyone who reads this blog is already entirely aware of:

Art 21 puts out a new season every two years. There are five to date which are broken into 4 episodes (or themes), each covering 4 or 5 artists. It has great interviews as well as studio, gallery, and installation footage. And you can watch them all free online! Perfect research for a hungover Sunday?

You can browse and search by year, artist or theme. It is particularly nice to watch Louise Bourgeois as an old woman talk about art and feeling. Her presence and beauty transcends even a laptop screen with a glow of inspiration.

limbs unfurled

The first time I discovered Jenny Holtzer it was in the MoMA,
I walked past a bronze plaque that blended with the building, unremarkable,
but for the fact that it read;

Today in a drawing book I found this selection from LAMENTS;

THE NEW DISEASE CAME.
I LEARN THAT TIME
DOES NOT HEAL.
EVERYTHING GETS
WORSE WITH DAYS.
I HAVE SPOTS
LIKE A DOG.
I COUGH AND CANNOT
TURN MY HEAD.
I CONSIDER SLEEPING
WITH PEOPLE
I DO NOT LIKE.
I NEED TO LIE
BACK TO FRONT
WITH SOMEONE
WHO ADORES ME.
I WILL THINK MORE
BEFORE I CANNOT.
I LOVE MY MIND WHEN
IT IS FUCKING THE
CRACKS OF EVENTS.
I WANT TO TELL YOU
WHAT I KNOW
IN CASE IT IS OF USE.
I WANT TO GO TO
THE FUTURE PLEASE.

a peace project,

pre-storm; post-storm;

in the dark night we drank wine under photo-kit lighting, a peace pipe and treaty;
smoking shisha from a small tipi in the centre, making friends with sprinkles of rain
and talking of theatre school and home-made hair-cuts,

richard wright, the dean gallery in edinburgh,

for the easily distracted;

blurry tourist,

goodbye autumn;
